As part of our Manufacturing Class (ME 240), the final project was to implement a design given by middle school students for a hot-wheel car. The implementation includes converting the 2D illustration of the students' design to CAD and designing the mold plates accordingly. Once the mold plates were designed, a toolpath was generated using MasterCAM for each mold plate for various operations such as drilling, constant cutting, pocketing, and contouring. Then, the toolpath is fed into the 3-axis CNC mill using a block of Al 6061 as the workpiece. The mold plates are then loaded into the injection molding machine and various iterations of parts were made by changing the temperature and injection pressure until desired parts were obtained.
