Fundamentals of Aircraft Design Project
As part of the ME 328 (Fundamentals of Aircraft Design) class, teams are required to design and fly an RC aircraft that fulfills the mission set at the start of the semester. For spring 2022, the task of the dual-motor aircraft is to perform 360 loops left and right with only a single motor mid-flight. This creates significant yaw and roll instability as there is no computer on board to perform PID or any other correction. Our team tested various motor configurations and finally settled on the push-pull configuration, which offered superior roll and yaw stability compared to conventional dual motor configurations. Our team was successful by the end of the semester to perform both tasks in flight. Please take a look at the flight test prototypes and videos.
